Preferred subjects

 

Preferred subjects for consideration :
 

1. Models

Modeling of non-linear problems related to cable structures.
2. Testing (on site, in wind tunnel or "in silico"(virtual test by simulation))

Virtual and actual wind-tunnel testing, on site testing.

3. Field experience and monitoring

This is a main concern of the symposium in relation to practical results from observations/measurements of any cable dynamics problems. It may also be devoted to any future large project that includes cable problems, to promote discussion and debate on the topic.

　

Interaction between people from major engineering fields
(mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, other fields if any) could help to the understanding of these complex phenomena and explore the ways to solve them.
 
The Symposium will be based on practical applications such as :

 - overhead high voltage transmission lines

  • galloping, aeolian vibration and wake induced vibrations
  • dynamic loading (turbulent winds, ice shedding, components breaking)
  • structural frequencies and damping
  • monitoring and smart grids views

- suspension and stayed bridges

  • aerodynamic instabilities (induced by wind, wind and rain, ice, etc)
  • parametric excitation of the cables
  • changes of structural frequencies
  • structural damping values

- guyed masts

  • fatigue life
  • dynamic loading

- high speed train catenary problems

  • fretting ageing
  • wave propagation and shock
- cables in offshore engineering
  • sea wave effects
  • cable entanglement
