About CSCDA 2010

Human complex diseases are controlled by complex molecular mechanisms that are characterized by the joint action of multiple genes, each having only a small effect. In this context, traditional methods involving single sign posts have limited use and more advanced and efficient methods are needed to identify gene interactions and epistatic patterns. In this post-genomic era, it is our firm belief that advanced methods in statistical genetics should make better use of the vast amount of information that can be retrieved from proteomics, transcriptomics and metabonomics, to name but a few.

Along these lines, we are happy to announce the first edition of the biennial meeting on Capita Selecta in Complex Disease Analysis. The activity will take place in Leuven (Belgium) and is composed of two parts:

On Wednesday August 25, several short courses will be given by invited lecturers on basic concepts in statistical genetics with an emphasis on quality control and general aspects of large-scale genomic analysis using SNPs and CNVs These educational sessions allow PhD students with different backgrounds to acquire the necessary basis for the subsequent mini-conference

On Thursday August 26 and Friday August 27, a series of high level seminars is organized. Whereas August 26 is devoted to interaction analysis,  August 27 focuses on omics integration. Morning sessions include invited talks of keynote speakers. Afternoon sessions comprise short communications of students An  expert moderator will stimulate discussion between students and invited speakers.
